Unfortunately, we were not all blessed with perfectly straight teeth. Some of us have to endure the pain of braces or Invisalign. However, thanks to the current society we live in and the ever advancing dentistry, we have more than one option when it comes to the straightening of our teeth. The most popular ones are braces and Invisalign. The competition between these two techniques is tight and many people do not know which to choose. To avoid being one of the confused people, it’s always good to examine the facts or contact your local Richmond dentist.

The Basic Difference

Braces, as we know them, are metal brackets that are glued to the patient’s teeth and tied together by rubber bands and wires. They come in all different colors and can even match the color of the tooth enamel – however, they are still very noticeable. Because they have been around for a longer period of time, the success rate of braces is good and well-reported on.

Invisalign is a new technology, making its first appearance in 2000 – since then it has only improved. . These aligner trays with are worn over your teeth are meant to subtly and gently move your teeth into the desired position. As the name implies, this technology is designed for the same purpose, however it is made to be invisible. And thanks to the material out of which they are made, it is possible. The aligners are made of BPA free, clear plastic which is both smooth and comfortable for the patient.

Cost

The main area to consider when looking at the difference between these two is the cost. Invisalign, being more of a practical option and a newer technology will obviously be more expensive. The cost of Braces will range between $1,800-$5,500, whereas Invisalign averages the price of $5, 000.

Following up

When it comes to the following up, Braces will need to be checked at least once a month when the teeth are in the straightening process. With Invisalign, there will be less visits to the Dentist but the Aligners need to be changed every two weeks. With both Braces and Aligners, a retainer might have to be worn permanently in order to maintain the straight teeth – most probably only at night.

Pros and Cons

Braces cannot be removed – which for some may actually be a large advantage. This means that they cannot simply be taken out and forgotten about. The process is extremely successful even with serious technical complications. Braces don’t require any extra cleaning methods other than the usual flossing and brushing.

Invisalign is obviously advantageous because of the fact that they are unnoticeable. They are invisible to the average person and they can be removed when necessary. It is easy to eat with them because they can just be removed and with the lack of wires comes a new found comfort in comparison to the Braces.

There are advantages and disadvantages of both. There will be one that suits you as a person. Don’t stop doing research till you have found the perfect option. Straight teeth are easily attainable!
