# Patient FAQs

Find the answers to some frequently asked questions about consultations and treatment at Ironwood Dental Care. 

Our friendly and experienced team are always on hand to answer your questions and concerns.

#### What can I expect from an appointment at Ironwood Dental Care?

We create a complete dental and medical history for our patients. This may include taking basic x-rays, using a CBCT scanner to create a 3D image of your mouth, and taking conventional impressions and digital impressions with an intra-oral scanner. There is also time in the consultation to discuss your dental concerns and take photos of your smile.

#### Will my treatment hurt?

At Ironwood Dental your comfort is our top priority. To ensure patient comfort we have implemented the latest technologies including digital anaesthesia as well as gentle anaesthetic techniques to ensure your treatment is as comfortable as possible.

#### How much will treatment cost?

Treatment costs vary depending on the services you are looking for. At Ironwood Dental Care, we will help you find the treatment that best suits your needs and provide you with an estimate cost.

#### How many appointments will my treatment take?

The length and number of appointments varies depending on the treatment you are getting. We are happy to provide patients with a consultation to determine the treatment that will meet your needs. We can then give you an estimate of how many appointments it will take to complete your treatment.

#### What is periodontal (gum) disease?

Periodontal disease is an inflammatory condition that occurs within gum tissues and other supporting structures of the teeth including the bone and ligaments. Chronic inflammation of the gums can lead to pain and sensitivity, infections, recession and in some cases tooth loss.

#### What are the signs of periodontal (gum) diseases?

One of the earliest indicators of gum disease is the presence of bleeding within your gums. Bleeding of the gums can occur during brushing or flossing. Over time, the gums can also begin to swell. Both bleeding and swelling are signs of inflammation and can be managed by improved oral hygiene and regular check up and cleanings.

#### I have been told that mine is a difficult case. Will Ironwood Dental Care be able to help me?

At Ironwood Dental Care we use a multidisciplinary approach to provide our patients with the most ideal and comprehensive care. We work with several specialists including oral surgeons and endodontists.

#### What is a sinus graft?

If teeth have been missing for some time, our sinuses can begin to drop. We can restore the sinus to the original position to allow for implant placement.

#### What is a CBCT scan?

A CBCT is a precise, low-dose radiation scan that shows a 3-dimensional image of the bone and jaw. This allows for precise implant placement.

#### How do I look after my teeth after an extraction?

It is recommended to keep the area clean by using the rinses we have advised or a salt-water rinse. It is also important to avoid using a straw or smoking. After your extraction we will give you all these instructions.
