Prevention is our first priority. At
Ironwood Dental,
we are totally committed to preventative
dental care. Early detection and treatment
can prevent most problems including tooth
decay and gum disease. Regular
visits are the key to
maintenance, as these early signs of decay
and gum disease can be screened for at these
appointments. This results in less future
treatment and better overall care. And as
mentioned previously, our goal is to ensure
that our patients receive the best care
possible.
Brushing
–
There are many different types of
toothbrushes available. At Ironwood
Dental, we will help you choose the
right brush for your mouth and also
demonstrate the correct brushing
technique.
Flossing
– Flossing is an essential
part of regular oral hygiene care
because it removes plaque from between
teeth and at the gumline where periodontal
disease often begins. If you find
using floss awkward or difficult,
ask your dental hygienist about
the variety of dental floss holders
or interdental cleaning devices
that are available.
Fluoride
–
Fluoride is vital for dental health.
It
adds strength to your tooth enamel
and increases resistance to
harmful decay. If you already have
some decay,
fluoride can help repair the damaged
tooth, often slowing or stopping the
decaying process. At Ironwood Dental,
we will give you a fluoride
application immediately after a
hygiene visit in our office.
Hygiene Services
– The registered dental hygienists
at Ironwood Dental Centre are highly
skilled, gentle and knowledgeable,
specializing in individualized periodontal
care. They provide the most advanced
non-surgical periodontal therapy
available. If keeping your teeth
for life and having them look their
best is your goal, our hygienists
will help you achieve it.
Diagnosis of Periodontal
Disease –
You may have periodontal (gum)
disease and not even realize it.
This is because periodontal disease
is usually not painful, especially
in its early stages. To check for
signs and symptoms or periodontal
disease, we perform a thorough
periodontal examination.
Periodontal Disease is an infection
of the gums, cause by bacteria in
plaque. When your gums are healthy,
they fit tightly against your teeth.
If you have periodontal disease,
your gums pull away from your teeth
in response to the infection.
In a healthy mouth, the space
between your teeth and gums (called
sulcus) is one to three millimeters
deep. When you have periodontal
disease, the sulcus
deepens and eventually
exceeds three millimeters;
it is then called a pocket.
In general, the deeper that the
pocket is, the greater is the
seriousness of the spread of
periodontal disease. During
your examination we use a special
instrument with millimeter markings
(called a periodontal probe) to
measure the sulcus or deep pockets
around your teeth.
We’ll
also take x-rays of your
mouth to establish whether there has
been bone loss around your
teeth (another indicator of
periodontal disease).
With the progression of periodontal
disease, there is also a gradual
loss of the bone support around the
teeth. Once bone is lost it
never grows back. This is why it is
critical to diagnose and treat
periodontal disease early to prevent
continued bone loss and
thus, eventual tooth loss.
Since each mouth is unique,
a thorough diagnosis will help the
dental hygienist customize a
treatment plan individualized to
your oral health needs. |

Silver and gold fillings used to be the only
choices for restoring damaged or decayed
teeth. Although strong and durable, not all
patients were happy with the aesthetics of
these restorations. At Ironwood
Dental,
we are excited to offer you a choice of
porcelain or composite resin
(a plastic tooth-like
material) that matches the color of
your natural teeth. Both
porcelain and composite resins
bond securely to your tooth, so the
restorations are extremely strong and
durable.
And also because they are bonded, we
can be more conservative when we prepare
your tooth for the filling, so you retain
more of your natural healthy tooth. Gold is
still an excellent restorative material that
is also available. It may be a better choice
in patients where tooth isolation can be
difficult.

Straighten
your teeth with invisible braces! The
Invisalign system consists of a series of
clear, removable aligners that gradually
move your teeth. Each set of aligners is
worn for two weeks at a time, and treatment
takes typically one year or less. It's the
perfect way to straighten your teeth without
the need for traditional braces!

Smile Analysis
– Come and visit our office
for a smile analysis, which consists
of classifying your smile according
to
style, stage and type. Our dentists
are specially trained to identify
any problems and present solutions
to improve your smile.
Porcelain Veneers
–
This is the ultimate cosmetic dental
makeover. Many aesthetic dental
problems can be resolved with
porcelain veneers. Whether you have
chipped, gapped, stained or
misaligned teeth, this may be
a restorative option.
A piece of wafer-thin porcelain is
form-fitted to each individual
problem tooth, resulting in a
beautiful new look. This option
usually only requires two or more
visits to create a perfect smile.

Tooth Whitening –
This is one of the most popular
cosmetic dental procedures. At
Ironwood Dental, we offer an
in-office whitening procedure that
will brighten your teeth in only one
appointment!
-
In-Office
Whitening: This procedure
is carried out in the dental
chair and takes approximately
two hours with the ZOOM!(TM)
chairside
whitening lamp (includes set-up time
and photos).
Results are typically better
than with the take-home
whitening,
and patients often experience
a shorter duration of sensitivity
following the procedure. Touch-up kits
and whitening trays are also
included for maintenance of that
brighter, whiter smile!

products used in our office, visit

With
proper care, your child’s smile can last a
lifetime.
Educating you and your child about dental
care is
a priority for us here at Ironwood
Dental.
We are always
happy to answer your questions.
Regular hygiene appointments ensure
consistent care and
follow-up of your children’s oral
health needs.
Orthodontic Care
–
As part of our ongoing re-care
examination and assessments, we are
continuously monitoring your
child as their jaws and teeth
develop. If required, we can refer you to an orthodontist
and work with them to keep your child's
smile beautiful and healthy.
Sleep Dentistry - In some cases,
children may be too young to comfortably
receive treatment in the dental chair.
As an option, we offer sleep dentistry,
where all the treatment can be completed
in one appointment in a relaxed
environment. This service is also
available for adults, if requested.
Please inquire for further information.

Crowns and bridgework are the historical
standards in dental restorations and are a
process with which many people are familiar.
For many years, these restorations were made
entirely from metal,
resulting in a “gold” or “silver” tooth.
Those metals are still used in crown and
bridgework, but today there is the addition
of aesthetic porcelain, which looks and
feels like your natural teeth. Porcelain
crowns completely cover the exposed tooth
structure
all the way down to the gum line.
They are often used to repair teeth that
have undergone root canal treatment or have
broken down from decay or a fracture too
extensive to be restored by a filling only.
A porcelain crown is created in the laboratory,
specially designed and crafted to blend
with your natural teeth. The shade of porcelain
is carefully selected to match your surrounding
teeth, making the crown appear natural and
undetectable. Having a customized crown
made takes two or three appointments. The
tooth is carefully prepared and impressions
are taken to create a perfect fit.
If you are missing one tooth or multiple
teeth in an area, a bridge may be an option.
Bridgework consists of one or more crowns
(called pontics) that replace missing teeth
and are kept in place by being anchored to
the adjacent teeth (called abutments) on
either end of the span.
The materials used for creating a bridge are
similar to those of a crown, allowing a
custom shade of porcelain to match your
surrounding teeth.
Like crowns, once the bridgework is permanently cemented
you may enjoy your favorite foods with
confidence
again. Bridgework allows you to avoid
that
“sunken”
appearance caused
by missing teeth and stabilizes that area of
the dental arch to give you a more youthful
appearance and
a more confident smile.
Temporomandibular Disease (TMD) is a cycle of pain, muscle spasms
and joint imbalance
in the area where the jaw meets
the skull. This joint is called the
temporomandibular joint
(TMJ). Within it is a thin disc
of cartilage that acts as a cushion
between these two bones. When the
balance in this important joint is lost,
you can suffer from mild to searing
pain, headache and earaches, stiffness,
muscle spasms and clicking or popping of
the joint. This is
called TMD.
To restore the balance to the area, we
may
decide to place crowns, add filling
material, adjust your bite,
provide you with a mouth splint,
or even realign your teeth. If you are
concerned about TMD,
come visit Ironwood Dental for a
consultation.
